3/9/2008 - What are my options if I want to charge credit card for my online store?
Here are some examples along with the pros and cons on each approach. 1. Paypal Web payment standard approach. Process, at the end of the checkout process at your online store, an order will be stored in order database first, then customer will be taken to the paypal.com to pay. Once they have paid the payment, paypal.com will issue a signal to call a URL from your website to update the order status and send out order update email. Pros: It is low cost way as paypal only charges you 3% of the transaction fee if you have business account and does not charge commission if it is regular account (subject to monthly charging restriction). Cons: a, All the payment are taking care at paypal.com instead of within your own web site. b. If customer choose not to pay at the end of order checkout, an order with pending status would still be stored. c. If customer did pay at paypal.com at the end of order checkout but if there is internet interruption from paypal.com to your web site at the very moment, then order status might not be updated and paypal might not send the signal one more time. 2. Offline Credit Card Payment. Process: At the end of order checkout, an order with credit card detail will be stored in order database. Then as store owner, you will need to go to store admin -> order management and charge the credit card with any kind of charging tool (either real credit card charing terminal or paypal.com). Pros: Your customers do not need to pay the payment at third party (paypal.com, at least they do not see this information). And if you have your own charging terminal, it's a good way to save the fee for online payment gateway. Cons. Everything is manual work. 3. Real-time credit card payment through payment gateway. Process: At the end the order check out, your web site will charge the credit card and if the credit card is not valid, it will bring your customer back to the credit card detail page for them to input credit card information again. If credit card charge goes through, then order status will be updated and order will be stored as paid status. Pros: You do not need to worry about order containing invalid credit card information and everything is automated. Cons: Higher fees you will need to pay for online merchant account and payment gateway access fee. Example, authorize.net, paypal web payment pro. PS. With paypal web payment pro, there is monthly service fee and you will need to apply with your paypal account to get approved first.

For a shipping rule to apply during shipping method search, the shipping zone needs to match with the shipping destination zone and the total price needs to fall in between the "from price" and "to price" (if the shipping rule is based on total price) or in between "from weight" and "to weight" (if your shipping rule is based on the total product weight".
